Volume recruitment - the initial part of the process

Written by Leigh Foster

Volume recruitment is generally used when your business needs to recruit multiple candidates to fill positions within a given time frame - this can be from hiring seasonal workers to your company opening new offices across the country. Recently industries such as retail had to conduct volume recruitment campaigns to fill positions that were left void due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

It’s important to sit down and take the time to plan your campaign and ask yourself questions such as:

  • How many vacancies do we need to fill?
  • Where can we find quality candidates?
  • How will we keep track of the applicants through the recruitment process?
  • What resources will we need during the campaign?

The candidate application needs to be user-friendly – Applications with pages and pages of questions are going to deter a good chunk of candidates from applying because they immediately think the whole process will be difficult - Research found that 42% of candidates found lengthy application forms to be frustrating. Also, handwritten application forms are a thing of the past, please avoid these!

The difference a fantastic job advert makes - Your job advert will be the first impression any candidate has of your company so not only do you want it to show your company in the best light, but you want it to be appealing enough that candidates are wanting to apply to work for your company.

Target where you advertise - With a large number of job boards available, it’s important that you find the ones that will be right for you. Take the time to research and have a good look around, there is no point in taking a scattergun approach to advertising if you end up posting jobs on boards that are completely irrelevant to your industry.

Utilise qualifying questions - Up to 75% of applications per job can be from unqualified applicants… By adding a couple of qualifying questions to your application you could save hours of reading applications from candidates who do not have the right qualifications or experience.

We’ve given a few examples above of how you can improve your volume recruitment campaigns, but here at Pertemps Managed Solutions, we specialise in successfully delivering recruitment campaigns across many industries.  If you are struggling to attract the right calibre or volume of candidates, feel free to get in touch at hello@pertempsmanagedsolutions.co.uk.
