Points to consider when starting a recruitment campaign for your business

Written by Chris West

With so many companies hiring in the UK right now, it’s important that you prepare and consider a few points before jumping into a recruitment campaign. This article will hopefully provide you with a few pointers to ensure you get the basics right. There are a few different ways to get new candidates into your business, the first is the passive approach AKA adverts and marketing to get candidates to come to you and the second is by engaging with recruitment agencies to proactively search the market for suitable candidates.

For passive recruitment there are some questions you should ask yourself:

  • Who writes your job adverts? Your marketing department? An external supplier?
  • Do they use the job description as a starting point? Is there a standard template you use as a business?
  • Do you know who your ideal applicant is and what they’re looking for from a new role?

It’s important you get marketing involved in this process because they are likely to have experience with search engine optimisation and can help your job advert to be more visible for potential candidates.

Once you have an idea of what a good candidate looks like for your role it’s a lot easier to write the adverts, ask better questions and sell the role better to your target market.

As well as good advert writing and getting it posted in the right places, there are other things you can do to make it easier to attract the right talent to your open roles. Two examples of this would be through content marketing via social media and overall brand image which can be helped by positive media coverage and engaging with local events.

The great thing about content marketing is that you can tailor your content specifically to the needs of your target audience and can get direct indicators about the engagement through likes, views and shares.
